iphone photographie
i love photographie.
i love taking pictures.
i love capturing daily memories.
i love capturing travel memories.
i love photographing children . families .
the urban environment . the natural environment
in this post, i will go over what i think of when taking photographs with my iphone.
the filters i use, and don't use, the subjects, the foreground, the background, the perspective.
what i consider the most important in capturing an experience.
filters
i'm all about capturing experiences . my experience . my kids' experience . the people i care about's experiences .
filters offer a way to highlight your image.
i like using the 'chrome' filter on my iphone --- highlighting the color of the image...
{if using instagram with your iphone, i sometimes add to the chrome filter by using the 'clarendon' filter • see below • it adds that extra bit of punch to things, such as freckles!}
i also love love love the 'noir' filter.
i am a huge fan of black + white photographie, and this filter adds a lot of depth to the image...
lighting is super important when using this filter, because if the image is too dark to begin with, this filter will end up even darker...
what is the subject?
in the above snap, many things are the subject... her hot chocolate, her eyelashes, the love of a stuffed toy at hand...
when photographing using a phone, a dslr, manual or digital camera, you need to decide what is the subject of the image. while i am a big fan of taking a larger picture, with lots of background, and cropping it down to what is important at a later time, i also believe you need to decide what the subject is in your image. this had been a topic discussed many times, from an early age, with my dad. he loved taking pictures & was known to have a camera hanging around his neck 80% of the time... "what's your subject?"
there really is no need for a lot of background noise • focus on your subject and click! • click repeatedly to be sure you capture the image you want, allowing for blinking, wind blowing, etc.
in the above pic, my daughter is the subject {as well as the gigantic cookie she was eating on our recent trip to carmel}
there was no need to capture the rest of the cafe in the background.
her and her cookie capture the moment perfectly!
foreground + background
sometimes you want a little foreground or background to add to your image.
in the image above, the iced latte serves as the focus/subject in the foreground, while the hustle on the pier adds depth to the background...
danish abelskiver's are the subject of the above pic, with my son's delight being the background... again, no need to capture the hustle + bustle of the restaurant...
in the above pic, my middle boy is the subject {in the background}, with the rose on the table adding to the foreground.
little miss lola + the vintage horse she rides, are the subject of the above pic... it's really not necessary for the subject/person to be looking into the lense to capture an amazing pic, that tells a story...
perspective
i'm a big fan of perspective...
i love taking pictures from above, from below, at the subjects level...
when taking pictures from above {like the one above}, it reminds me of the hug, the freckles, the child. i just love it!
in the above shot, capturing the image at his level allows for him to be the focus, adding depth with the foreground...
below, down at her level, the image depicts seeing what she sees, her love of her stuffed toy, while capturing the amazing grasses + views of the pacific.
photographing in a series...
although sometimes grainy, photographing a series of images captures the moment... especially with kids... fun + movement = memories captured
in the series above, i managed to capture an awesome moment between grandma + grandson.
the image is dark, but we were fireside, at night.
to lighten the image, i had another person use the flashlight on their phone.
the end result is perfect {and i was able to use the 'noir' filter i love so much}!
capturing memories
in addition to capturing amazing views + the people you vacation with, i like to take snaps of other goings-on. in the above pic, we were packing up to leave our hotel room, and i decided to take a pic of all the stuffed toys that tag along with our family on trips.
love love love this!
